PARKS IV FIELD SUPERVISOR - FULL TIME

Department: PARK/CEME
Location: Park City, UT

PAY RATE: $37.24 - $45.61 USD per hour

JOB SUMMARY:

Parks IV Field Supervisor assists in a wide variety of supervisory, administrative, personnel, planning, coordinating, and technical duties associated with parks maintenance with a heavy focus on gardening. Responsible for overseeing and supervising the daily activities of parks personnel. They ensure all parks, recreational spaces, trails, sports fields, cemeteries, and landscaped areas are well-maintained, clean, and safe for public use. Field Supervisors are responsible for assigning tasks, training, guiding staff, and monitoring their performance. Overall, this position plays a crucial role in managing and maintaining our parks and facilities to create a positive environment for our residents, and visitors.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Performs as the Field Supervisor and oversees the scheduling of maintenance projects, monitoring and assessing the performance of personnel, and evaluating methods and results pertaining to park maintenance. Provides training and assistance, explains procedures, and answers questions for crews.
  • Operates specialized heavy and light equipment such as sidewalk plows, front-end loaders, backhoes, mowers, utility vehicles, and other similar equipment in the maintenance, construction, and repair of City Park facilities in a safe, courteous, and professional manner. Checks and services assigned equipment and perform routine maintenance and checks.
  • Monitors and makes daily adjustments to the irrigation system to effectively irrigate parks. Supervises the installation, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems pertaining to irrigation systems. Orders supplies and keeps stock of maintenance supplies and repair parts.
  • Supervises snow crews during the winter months including plowing and hauling of snow from City sidewalks, trails, old town stairs, artificial turf fields, and City-owned buildings.
  • Schedules and performs maintenance at the cemetery including burials and cremations.
  • Performs and schedules routine safety inspections on City-owned playground equipment, sidewalks, cemetery monuments, bleachers, and old town stairs. Makes necessary repairs.
  • Organizes and conducts regular safety meetings with staff. Assures all activities are carried out in accordance with City safety standards; assures that all work sites, shop areas and equipment are safe for employees and the public. Establish training procedures for employees in their area of work. Trains staff on the safe operation of maintenance equipment. Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace, safe work practices and safety programs. Maintains Safety Data Sheets for the division. Maintains specific documentation of inspection and maintenance records to meet risk management requirements, including application of fertilizers, sprays, and chemicals.
  • Performs and schedules landscape maintenance on parks. Oversee and scheduled maintenance to city-owned forestry. Manage the Tree City USA program. Implements and oversee the beautification of Park City including, banners, flags, hanging baskets, holiday lighting & decorations, planters, and flowers.
  • Performs and assigns maintenance on softball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball & tennis courts, BMX track, Skateboard Park, and rugby field. Evaluates the performance of seasonal staff. Provides performance evaluation to full-time staff. Monitors and approves bi-weekly payroll for seasonal and full-time staff. Administer the end-of-season bonus program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years experience as a park maintenance worker (or “groundskeeping, construction, concrete, and general maintenance and repair) or equivalent with an increasing level of responsibility.
  • May be required to possess one or more of the following certifications:
    • Utah State Pesticide Applicators license
    • Certified Playground Safety Inspector.
    • Master Gardener’s Certificate
    • Certified Arborist
    • Irrigation water efficiency auditor
    • Valid Driver’s License (or CDL if required)
    • National Incident Management System Certifications
    • Skilled in the operation of a variety of light, medium and heavy equipment under varying conditions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to climb and pull own weight in and out of equipment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pound bags or similar items.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to cold, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Ability to work and stand for extended periods of time in hot, cold, wet, and noisy conditions.
  • Work is performed primarily in vehicles, and indoor /outdoor settings, in all weather conditions including extreme temperature extremes.
  • Periodic exposure to stressful situations.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Occasional non-traditional working hours which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Rotating on-call working hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
