RECREACTION FACILITIES ASSISTANT- SEASONAL TEMPORARY

PAY RANGE $25.50-$30.00 PER HOUR (D.O.E.)

THIS IS A TEMPORARY FULL-TIME SEASONAL POSITION (UP TO 40 HOURS; UPON HIRE UNTIL SEPTEMBER; EXACT DATES TBD)

JOB SUMMARY

Recreation Facilities Assistant performs skilled labor and completes complex duties related to building maintenance, recreation facilities and programming of the Marc recreation center.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Performs janitorial duties throughout recreation venues and facilities.
  • Performs daily cleaning, facility program support, fitness equipment maintenance, cleaning, etc.
  • Assists in seasonal maintenance work, including painting, snow removal, installation and removal of wind screens, pool opening and closures, basic facility landscaping such as raking & sweeping
  • Assists minor repairs and preventive maintenance associated with aquatics, tennis, plumbing, carpentry, fitness and recreation equipment.
  • Maintains inventory control systems to ensure materials availability to meet demand in all facility storage locations; custodial and recreational needs.
  • Works closely with recreation administration, other city departments and outside groups to assist in special events. Prepares facility with setup/teardown of recreation programs and events.
  • Assists in testing, monitoring and overseeing pool maintenance and general upkeep to assure safe pool operations. Performs routine maintenance including sweeps, vacuums, polishing of pools and spa, deck cleaning, monitoring of water temperatures and chemicals.
  • Adhere to all City and departmental safety policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned or directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year custodial experience.
  • Two years of experience with building maintenance repair.
  • Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Utah Certified Pool Operators License (CPO) First Aid/CPR Certificate.
  • Knowledge of proper safety precautions when using cleaning agents, lifting heavy objects, or when performing maintenance duties in hazardous settings. Pool operations, testing and basic maintenance.
  • Tool, Machine, Equipment Operation: Operation of cleaning equipment such as floor scrubs, vacuums and carpet shampooers, pool equipment and mechanical systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Physical Demands: Ability to perform manual labor, including: working on ladders, lifts, rooftops, in boiler rooms, or in cold, hot, or dusty conditions. Employee will frequently bend, stoop or crouch. Employee may sit or stand for long periods of time and may occasionally move or lift more than 50 pounds. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or operate objects, controls, or tools. Ability to climb and pull own weight in and out of equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Work Environment: Generally comfortable working conditions in a climate controlled recreation facility setting. Occasional work near moving mechanical parts: in high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Work is performed primarily in office, vehicles, and outdoor settings, in all weather conditions including temperature extremes, and includes day, swing and night shifts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to low.
