PAY RATE: $27.62 - $33.83 (USD) PER HOUR

JOB SUMMARY:

The Parks III – Performs as a team lead in a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance of the city parks, recreational spaces, trails, sports fields, cemeteries, and landscaped areas. Operation of medium, light, and other specialized equipment when needed. Assists in maintaining our maintenance program throughout Park City. This position requires a rotating shift schedule, with the expectation that the employee will work night shifts for part of the year and day shifts for the remaining part. Shift transitions are seasonal and will be communicated in advance to ensure adequate planning.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • May act as a crew leader on various projects including landscaping, mowing, irrigation, and general park maintenance, and may include snow removal operations during the winter months. Provides training and assistance, explains procedures, and answers questions for crews.
  • Operates specialized heavy and light equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, mowers, utility vehicles, and other similar equipment in the maintenance, construction, and repair of City facilities in a safe, courteous, and professional manner. Checks and services assigned equipment and perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • May be required to monitor and makes daily adjustments to the irrigation system to effectively irrigate parks and golf course. Involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems. Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems pertaining to the irrigation systems.
  • Involved in the removal of snow during the winter months including plowing and hauling of snow from City sidewalks, old town stairs, trails, artificial turf fields, and City-owned buildings.
  • Ensures assignments such as planting, pruning, weeding, fertilization, chemical application, mowing, field maintenance, irrigation operation and repair, and special events are completed promptly and professionally.
  • Accurately applies fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, etc. to stimulate growth or to control various pests and plant diseases by following label directions, State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Ensures all City and departmental safety policies and procedures are adhered to in day-to-day operations.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining a safe workplace, safe work practices, and safety programs.
  • Assists in training seasonal staff on the operation of grounds maintenance equipment.
  • The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Utah State Driver’s License (or CDL)
  • Ability to obtain City NIMS certifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Three years experience as a Parks Maintenance Worker II or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of minor equipment maintenance and repair functions
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to mechanized equipment operation
  • National Incident Management System Certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Supervisory experience.
  • Associate’s degree in related field.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to climb and pull own weight in and out of equipment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50-pound bags or similar items.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to cold, wet, and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Ability to work and stand for extended periods of time in hot, cold, wet, and noisy conditions.
  • Work is performed primarily in vehicles, and indoor/outdoor settings, in all weather conditions including extreme temperature extremes.
  • Periodic exposure to stressful situations.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Occasional non-traditional working hours which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Rotating on-call working hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
