SEASONAL AQUATICS- LIFEGUARDS, SWIM INSTRUCTORS, COACHES

Department: REC PROGRAMS
Location: Park City, UT

Hourly range is $15-$30 per hour based on experience and specific role within aquatics

JOB SUMMARY:
Seasonal aquatics roles include Swim Instructor (group), Swim Instructor (private), Lifeguard, Swim Supervisor/Deck Guard and Assistant Swim Coach. Seasonal aquatics positions may include teaching organized swim lessons to various age groups, responsible for ensuring patron safety by conducting surveillance, enforcing rules, ensuring equipment is in proper working condition, responding to emergencies as they arise, assisting on deck to ensure smooth operation of the swim team programs, workouts and regional meets.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
• Coordinates and teaches several swimming lessons per day. Records attendance, reinforces prior skills, teaches new skills, assesses swimmers’ abilities, and adjusts where is it is necessary.
• Prepares for each day’s lessons by determining lesson plans and preparing equipment.
• Communicates the progress of participants to parents and supervisors.
• Attends all staff trainings.
• Fills out report cards for each participant.
• Provides a fun & safe learning environment for all swimmers to progress.
• Assists in the coordination of swim meets and awards.
• Monitors and evaluates participants’ progress on an ongoing basis.
• Performs surveillance and enforces rules to ensure patron safety.
• Performs water rescues and first aid as needed.
• Helps maintain cleanliness and readiness of pool areas by vacuuming pools and hot tub, ensuring pool deck is clear of hazards, scrubbing tiles, and putting covers on and off the pool.
• Provides customer service to patrons by answering questions in a friendly manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of swimming basics; including proper form, stroke development, terminology and how to read swim sets.
• Current American Red Cross CPR/AED certified; for the Professional Rescuer with First Aid Certification for some aquatics positions.
• Must be 14 years or older.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Prior swim instruction, coaching or lifeguard experience.
• WSI, Starfish, or Adaptive Swimming Certification.
